Do you know I was driving down the road the other day and I saw a sign re double glazing.
Get you PVCu windows blah blah blah
I remember in the early days it used to be UPVC
Is there a difference or has it just been re branded a bit like marathons and snickers
Its one of those questions that I've wanted anwering for a long time
Thanks

Maybe this is one that Tim Hedland may be able to help with, having worked for Speedframe.

Hi Mark, Tracey,
A good question! From my understanding there is no difference between uPVC or PVC-U. PVC is simply Polyvinyl Chloride, whilst the U simply refers to "un-plasticised", but is often mis-quoted as "un-modified".
In the late eighties the UK re-dubbed "uPVC" to "PVC-U" to fall in-line with our European counterparts - in most European languages the noun would fall before the adjective (U in this case).
I hope this helps
Regards,
Phil |
