We are considering adopting a drug and alcohol policy however what contravenes a breach of the policy. For example do we follow the enforcement for alcohol over a prescribed limit or do we adopt a zero tolerance approach. Should we accept that lower risk roles i.e. office based personnel can have a drink at lunchtime or not. Do we allow managers to entertain clients at lunch. Can this form of segregation on safety / quality related roles be classed as discrimination in the eyes of the legal representative.

This is a very controversial topic and I am trying to understand what other organisations are doing to tackle such an area. If you suspect someone of drinking how should this be approached.

I was wondering how other organisation’s had approached this subject?
