Hi

A friend of mine works at a circus as a clown.
Unfortunately she recently had an accident where her clown car fell off a high wire. The doors exploded as part of the act but one flew into the audience and pinned an old lady to her seat causing a panic attack.

My friend also suffered injuries as a result of a fall from height, she also swallowed her red "stick on" nose and is now off work for several weeks.

Is this accident RIDDOR reportable and also where would you begin when doing an accident investigation?

Thanks

Julie, can't type for giggling. Tell me please before I write a serious reply - you're kidding right?

Hi Julie

Having a quick breeze through and this caught my eye. Where do you start with such a problem it may be stating the obvious but maybe you should take far more care when selecting friends as there are already too many clowns around. As a profession clowns are noted for thier lack of complience with H&S, they just think everything is one big joke

hope your back is feeling better

Oh Julie, how they mock and scorn. Just to let you know the incident has been reported but they are awaiting the retrieval of the red nose as its considered vital evidence. As with everything, these things take a little time.

Thanks Di

I'm glad its been reported, wasn't quite sure if it had gone to your very efficient admin department!

I know you just couldn't make anything like that up could you? Perhaps we could use this at the conference - working from height?

Julie

I think there are several issue here with WAH only one. We would also be dealing with a minority group, workplace transport, explosive so DSEAR not to mention a Section 3 and post traumatic stress.
Would the area the old lady was pinned beneath count as a confined space? I believe the ringmaster, who was jealous of the clown's husband cos he was friendly with the hairy lady who was also in a tryst with one of the high wire artists and he was the brother of his wife's late nephew' girlfriend, will be found to have caused it all.
