Hi there

We have a situation where someone is complaining of backache. In brief they have a dse suitable chair and we are in process of doing workstation risk assessment but what are the merits of having arm rests on chairs.

Thanks

To me Tracey, they are a bind. I have just moved offices and managed to get rid of my problem. I had to raise the height of my desk as I couldn't get the arms of my chair under the desk. Now I have moved offices I have been given a cheaper more comfortable chair believe it or not. It has arms

I think the main issue here is comfort and how people feel. I must admit I did try to take off the arms so I could get under the desk.

The thing is what does the user want. Do they want arms on their chair or not.

I suggest you talk to Posturite next Tuesday at the Conference

Thank you for your advice Mark. The user wants arms but states that is why they have back ache as no arms on the chair but not heard of this before - general posture probably more to blame.

I, like yourself, find arms really annoying as they restrict access to the desk again I feel it is personal choice.

Will ask the experts at the conference.
