Hello everyone,
Seems like a good idea to introduce myself, especially as I have only recently moved up to this part of the world from Sunny Kent and don't know as many of the safety fraternity in this region as I would like.
I was the H & S Co-ordinator at a large cement plant until June last year when I was unfortunately made redundant.........things still aren't that great employmentwise but hopefully the situation will start to improve in 2010.
My first foray into H & S was via the Trades Unions as a Safety Rep in a Quarry......which was an eye-opener!! Dangerous places, quarries.
After taking the NEBOSH NGC, managed to secure a position for the same Company as a H & S assistant in a busy cement plant, where I "cut my teeth" as a full time safety advisor. Since then I have gained the NEBOSH Diploma and put that knowledge to good use at a local cement plant until my redundancy.
Hope to meet many of you at Association meetings and see you in the forums!!
Cheers,
Howard |

Good Afternoon Howard and welcome to the Association!
I am Philip Marsh, Health and Safety Manager at British Glass Manufacturers' Confederation and Hon. Assistant Secretary of the Sheffield Occupational Health and Safety Association, I also look after the associations website - so if you have any problems don't hesitate to contact me.
Sorry to hear about your recent troubles - it has certainly been a bad 18 months for industry and we have had many organisations hit by the economic downturn both in the glass industry and SOHSA's membership.
I do hope that things turn up trumps for you, but networking with members of the association is probably a great start for you - I know many of us tend to hear about opportunities arising early on.
Great to see you here on the forums and please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any comments, suggestions or struggle with any areas of the site.
Best Regards,
Phil |

Hi there Howard
Welcome to the Association.
I am Tracey, the Association's secretary. I work in Chesterfield at Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce in the training department. My role involves ensuring all our 'learners' are safe whilst on various training programmes.
Again, as with Philip, if you require any information or assistance do not hesitate to contact me, preferably via email as I am often not able to be contacted by telephone. The address is: t.stubbs@sohsa.org.uk.
Hope to see you at the meeting in March.
Tracey |
